Palm Coast, Florida Hospital Achieves Highest Honors for EMR Adoption

Florida Hospital Flagler, a facility in the Adventist Health System, has become the first hospital in Florida to earn HIMSS Analytics’ Stage 7 Award for electronic medical records (EMR) implementation.

The honor highlights Florida Hospital Flagler as an advanced adopter of EMR systems. Stage 7 is the highest level a hospital can attain under HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM), the methodology by which they track the EMR progress of medical providers.

Studies on implementation programs across the country show high EMR failure rate, so this northwest Florida hospital’s Stage 7 achievement is impressive and notable. With the advanced-adopter designation, Florida Hospital Flagler became one of only 66 facilities in the US to reach that highest level.

“Adventist Health System, through Florida Hospital Flagler, is leading the way in electronic medical records adoption thanks to our skilled physicians and staff,” said David Ottati, CEO of Florida Hospital Flagler.

“Becoming the first in Florida to accomplish this high level of technological integration and advancement demonstrates Florida Hospital Flagler’s dedication to offering the highest quality and safest care to our patients.”

By successfully deploying EMR technology, Florida Hospital Flagler now has an entirely paperless medical records system and the ability to safely and securely share patient health data electronically with other care providers.

“Adventist Health System has established one of the best examples of a health information exchange (HIE) our review team has seen,” said John P. Hoyt, Executive Vice President of HIMSS Analytics. “Adventist Health System is a data-driven organization, and Florida Hospital Flagler is using technology to improve patient care at all levels.”
