Vanguard Rheumatology Partners in Miami Beach, Fla., needed to switch from AllScripts’ electronic health record (EHR) software to a service with a more flexible pay-as-you go model. The organization is paying $625 a month for at least the next two years to leave Allscripts because it was tied in to a contract without a termination clause.

“When I decided to move on I was told there would be no termination clause and I’d have to pay whatever remaining balance there was—and there would still have to be interest charges,” Dr. Carlos Sesin, a Vanguard partner who is also chief of the Rheumatology Division at Mount Sinai Medical Center, in Miami Beach, Fla., toldCruxialCIO. “You can imagine the steam coming out of my ears.”

Instead, Sesin turned to CareCloud and a subscription-service model without a contract.
