Medicare EHR Incentive Program

What is the Medicare EHR Incentive Payment Timeline for Eligible Professionals?

The Medicare EHR Incentive Program started in 2011, and incentive payments will continue through 2016. If you are an eligible professional, the table below breaks down the maximum payment amounts you can receive per year, depending on the year you started participating in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program.

1The incentive payment is 75% of your Medicare allowed charges up to a maximum cap.
2The payment schedule above includes the Sequestration reduction as of April 2013

When is the final year I can participate in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program and Receive Incentive Payments?

If you are a Medicare Eligible Professional, and you did not start the MU program by 2014, you are no longer eligible to receive an incentive payment under the Medicare EHR Incentive program.  However, you still need to meet the requirements for Meaningful Use to avoid any penalties.

Medicaid EHR Incentive Program

What is the Medicaid EHR Incentive Payment Timeline for Eligible Professionals?

The Medicaid EHR Incentive Program is a voluntary program administered individually by each state and territory (find out more about the details of each state’s Medicaid EHR incentive program requirements).  If you qualify for the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program, you will have three years to meet the Stage 1 objectives, assuming that during the first year of the program, you adopt, implement, or upgrade to a certified EHR.  From here you will need to achieve the Meaningful Use requirements for the remaining years that you participate in the program.
