When things change in the healthcare industry, such as diagnosis or procedure codes, a new version of your practice management software must be written and offered for sale. Therefore, one of the most important factors to consider when looking for a new PM system is where your system will live.

We’re here to tell you that web-based practice management systems offer many advantages over client-server software. By using technologies like cloud computing to lower costs, increase security and strengthen patient connectivity, PM systems have improved considerably over the past decade.

Docs, It's Time for Tough Choices at Your Medical PracticeWhether you’re a younger physician or you’ve been practicing since the ’80s, you know that the pressure on your reimbursements has been unrelenting. Unfortunately, fear and inertia take over because doctors just don’t have anywhere to turn for truly objective advice.

With new payment systems and structures likely right around the corner, a conference has been organized to address these issues head-on.

Could eWallets Ever Make it to Healthcare?Digital payment systems are attracting a wealth of interest in the technology news sphere these days, and for good reason. So-called “eWallets” may be the future of financial transactions.

Sure, mobile payment systems have been around for a little while. Starbucks has actually been a major leader in this sector since early 2011; its iPhone and Android app enables users to have a barcode on their phones’ screens scanned to complete a transaction. The simple system was used for over 42 million payments in its first 15 months on the app market.

People are searching for everything you can imagine online: restaurants that will deliver to their homes, the highest ranked family sedans, or the best golf clubs to come out this year. What’s stopping them from searching for the best pediatrician in Miami, or the best nephrologist in Nashville, or best neurologist in Wichita, or scheduling a medical appointment with a nephrologist in Nashville?

The answer to that question is that nothing is stopping them. So, if your potential patients are actively searching for you online, doesn’t it make sense to build the strongest online presence possible?

Don't Care About HIPAA? You ShouldWhen the HIPAA Privacy Rule went into effect in 2003, it functioned, in part, as a major scare tactic for medical practice administrators across the country.

As a flurry of “privacy rights” paperwork was distributed to patients, clinical and clerical staffers were warned to watch what they said about patients – and who they said it to. Managers and doctors tightened up their handling of medical records to make sure they were in compliance with the policies.

Gwinnett Medical Center

The use of technology can reap major improvements in healthcare, but only if it’s done properly. If medical organizations fail to take care of their IT systems by doing necessary maintenance, their technology can work against them – especially if they’re using older software that requires frequent anti-virus upgrades to stay up-to-date.

Recently, a Lawrenceville, Georgia medical center’s internal IT network was so debilitated by malware that the hospital was forced to turn away patients. Was the hospital’s neglect of its legacy software system to blame?

The IBM SmartCamp World Finals

Hello, Internet! First of all, let’s start with an apology: it’s been a little while since we last updated the blog, but not for lack of ! We’ve been extremely busy around here. Between winning IBM SmartCamp Silicon Valley, signing up tons of new clients, and making constant enhancements to our system, we haven’t had a moment to rest. Not that we’re complaining or anything – things are really starting to pick up in the world of healthcare IT, and as always, we’re right on the cutting edge. Continue Reading…

Foreword: Remember that friend of yours, the one that just doesn’t ‘get’ Twitter? The one that talks about how it’s a useless frivolity and a passing fad? We all know at least one. Some people wouldn’t know the future if it came up and bit them, and others try furiously to resist its advance.
On the other hand, us enlightened folk know that the conversations on Twitter are insightful and illuminating, and there’s always room for another voice.

So let’s try something. We’re creating a guide to ease people into the world of Twitter, and we want to get as many non-believers on board as we can. Send it to anyone you think would enjoy Twitter if they ever gave it a chance. If this quick tutorial converts even a few people into Tweeps, we all win. The more, the merrier, as they say.
